Canada is a vast country with many different cultures. Understanding what makes Canada such a diverse country is a critical skill in being a team member in a Canadian workplace. There are various aspects of a Canadian workplace that may not be the same as a workplace in other countries.
We will take a close look at topics such as basic Canadian facts, appropriate workplace etiquette including body language, communication skills and common courtesies, as well as the importance of demonstrating adaptability, work ethic, and work initiative.
Skills / Knowledge
- 1. You are able to identify basic Canadian facts about geography, climate, religions, government, history and common pastimes.
- 2. You are able to identify appropriate etiquette in the Canadian workplace such as body language, effective communication and courtesies and manners
- 3. You are able to identify qualities employers expect in the workplace such as adaptability, work ethic and work initiative
- 4. You are able to identify symptoms of culture shock which may occur as a newcomer to Canada, how important it is to both your personal and professional well-being to take appropriate steps to overcome it using some of the solutions provided.
